Water reuse measurement
Introduction
At TIIAME National Research
University, sustainable water management is a core priority. With
Uzbekistan’s arid climate and limited rainfall, we have developed a
comprehensive water reuse measurement system to optimize resource utilization
and reduce water waste. This initiative aligns with our commitment to SDG 6:
Clean Water and Sanitation.
Rainwater
and Groundwater Collection
Our campus features an advanced
rainwater and groundwater collection system with a total capacity of 400,000
tons. This includes:
- A 350-ton underground tank.
- Two 50-ton above-ground
tanks.
Rainwater is collected from building
rooftops via strategically installed tubes and directed into collection trays,
which channel the water into these tanks. This system ensures efficient water
harvesting and storage, supporting sustainable water use across the university.
Water
Circulation and Reuse
TIIAME employs a closed-loop
water reuse system, enabling continuous recycling of water:
- Water collected in tanks is
used for irrigation, laboratory operations, and maintaining fountains.
- After use, the water undergoes
filtration and is returned to the tanks for repeated use. This system
ensures that 40% of irrigation needs on campus are met through
reused water, significantly reducing reliance on external water supplies.
Water
Quality Monitoring
To maintain high standards of safety
and efficiency, we regularly monitor the quality of reused water:
- Advanced Technologies: Filtration and UV
disinfection systems ensure the chemical and biological safety of the
water.
- Compliance: All water quality measures
adhere to Uzbekistan’s O’zDSt 950-2011 standards.
Data
Collection and Analysis
Our sustainability team collects and
analyzes data on:
- Water consumption.
- Tank refill rates.
- Water quality metrics.
Using a combination of automated
systems and manual assessments, this data helps us continuously improve our
water reuse practices, ensuring efficiency and sustainability.
Our
Achievements
- A significant portion of our
water demand, particularly for irrigation, is met through reused water.
- Advanced monitoring and
closed-loop systems minimize water waste and promote optimal resource
utilization.
- Our water reuse initiatives
position TIIAME as a model for sustainable water management in higher
education.
Looking
Ahead
We are committed to further
enhancing our water reuse systems by:
- Expanding rainwater harvesting
infrastructure.
- Integrating IoT-enabled devices
for smarter water management.
- Innovating and improving
filtration and circulation technologies.
