Water management educational opportunities

A training course: Improving the qualifications of water workers in Karakalpakstan
At a video conference meeting held on November 29, 2023, chaired by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, there was announced about a period of concreting canals in the water sector, and a number of measures were outlined for the rational use of water resources and reducing losses in agriculture. At the opening of the training course the Minister of Water Resources of the Republic of Karakalpakstan B. Dzhuzbaev made a speech, the teacher of “TIIAME” National Research University A. Suvanov and other speakers especially suggested about the importance of the tasks set by the head of our state and the need for effective use of available water resources. In total, about 350 employees of the Ministry water management of the Republic of Karakalpakstan started participating in advanced training courses, organized at Karakalpak Institute of Agriculture and Agricultural Technologies. The training courses will be held over 3 days, participants will undergo a final certification based on the knowledge gained, and active participants are planned to be issued a certificate.
Mapathon aimed at studying water problems
On November 24-26, 2023 for the first time in our country there was organized the Mapaton event, which was held jointly with the Agency for Strategic Reforms under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ozsuvtaminot JSC and INHA University. In this event, 120 students- volunteers were involved as a test in order to collect the current data on the level of provision of drinking water and sanitation for residents of Yangiyol region. A team consisting of students from “Land Resources and Cadastre”, “Hydromelioration”, “Ecology and Law” Faculties of “TIIAME” National Research University also took part in Mapaton. At the end of the event, the organizers presented certificates and souvenirs to the students.
A particular attention to women
On 19 October 2023, the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted the Awarding ceremony for the winners of the competition “Gender Equality Activist in the Field of Effective Use of Water Resources” among the employees of organizations. The event was attended by a university professor, member of the Women's Advisory Council, Zukhra Ismailova, sincerely congratulated all participants on the International Day of Rural Women.
Water resources for the future
On July 17, 2023, at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan for ensuring security at transport and tourism facilities, a round-table discussion was held on the topic “Water resources for the future”. Jahongirmirzo Mirzakobulov, doctoral student of “Ecology and Water Resources Management” Department in the event as a speaker, where he emphasized the audience that water is the source of life, which is considered as one of the most unique and invaluable resources of nature. He also suggested about the big demand for water resources on a global scale, which is being increased day by day, water shortage, climate change, numerous conflicts, environmental problems that the world is facing nowadays.
A two-day training seminar on the problem of increasing global water demand due to climate change has begun at the National Research University "TIIAME" in collaboration with IWMI (International Water Management Institute), the Department of Agriculture Forest Service and CGIAR (Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research). The goal of the seminar training is to increase the efficiency of irrigation systems, provide sustainable water to all sectors of the population and the economy through rapid and reliable water accounting. Participants will learn about the main water metering devices, their types and purposes, the choice of location of metering stations on canals, their type and construction stages, the improvement of the water metering system, as well as its implementation, scientific achievements and know-how in the field of water metering and automation in the region. The seminar is also aimed at developing cooperation between the educational, scientific and industrial sectors, as well as improving the skills of specialists in the field of water management.
The event “School of water specialists” was organized at our University
As it is known, in recent years, serious attention in the country is paid to measures to improve the fertility of agricultural land, including the application of water-saving technologies. In particular, on April 18, 2023, at the video conference call on water sector reform issues, the head of the state instructed to create a “School of water professionals”.
Over the past period, loans amounting to UZS 5 trillion were allocated for the introduction of water-saving technologies in agriculture, and water-saving technologies were introduced on 1 million hectares. In order to eliminate the existing shortcomings and problems in the introduction of water-saving technologies, mitigate the negative effects of water scarcity observed in the region, as well as for more efficient use of water resources in growing crops, Agrobank has put forward the initiative to establish a “Water School”.
Today, a big event on realization of this initiative was held at our University. The event was held in cooperation with the Ministry of Water Resources, National Research University “TIIIMSH” and Agrobank. Minister of Water Resources Shavkat Khamraev, Rector of the National Research University “TIIIMSH” Mirzaev Bakhodir Suyunovich, Chairman of the Board of “Agrobank” Rustam Mamatkulov expressed their opinion on the prospects of this school.
According to experts' recommendations, training of farmers is important for improving the culture of rational water use. Therefore, taking into account the requirements and suggestions, the school provides knowledge on improving water use culture, advanced methods of using water-saving technologies. For this purpose, a special handbook was developed with involvement of experienced specialists in this field.
