History of the university
The National Research University "Tashkent
Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers" began
its work in 1923, when the engineering and reclamation faculty was opened on
the basis of the hydrotechnical department of the Turkestan State University.
In 1923, 24 agronomist graduates and 16 reclamation engineers graduated from
the institute and became the first graduates.
In 1929, on the basis of the Faculty of Engineering
and Land Reclamation, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of
Water Management were opened, and the Central Asian Cotton Growing and
Irrigation Polytechnic Institute was established. With the creation of the
institute, the high demand for workers in the agriculture and water management
of the republic began to be satisfied. At that time, the implementation of land
and water reforms in the republic and the further development of irrigation and
agricultural mechanization required new innovative solutions in the field of
mechanization.
In 1934, the Central Asian Institute of Irrigation
Engineers and Technicians was merged with the Institute of Irrigation Engineers
and Agricultural Mechanization of Central Asia, and on November 11 of the same
year was renamed the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation Engineers and
Agricultural Mechanization. Initially, its structure included the Faculty of
Hydroreclamation and the Faculty of Reclamation. In the post-war years, serious
changes took place in the agricultural economy, new industries began to open
up. The opening of the Faculty of Land Management in 1945, the Faculty of
Mechanization of Irrigation Works in 1946, the Faculty of Technology and
Organization of the Repair of Agricultural Machines in 1974, and the Faculty of
General Engineering in 1979 were closely connected with the economic growth of
Uzbekistan. During the years of independence, the institute established and
developed partnerships with universities of foreign countries for the exchange
of scientific experience. A base of educational literature for the academic
disciplines taught at the institute has been formed, ample opportunities have
been created for studying foreign languages for continuing education in foreign
universities. In order to stimulate talented youth, scholarships of the
President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, named after “Beruni”, “Navoi” were
established. To date, over 100 students have received scholarships.
On March 30, 2004, by the decision of the Cabinet of
Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation
and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers was transformed into the Tashkent
Institute of Irrigation and Melioration. The institute was undergoing truly
innovative changes. The training of highly qualified personnel for the
country's agriculture and water management is an urgent problem. Currently,
more than 12300 students are studying in 40 areas of education at 7 faculties
and 32 master's specialties. There are 410 highly qualified teachers at the
institute, including 70 doctors of sciences, professors, 195 candidates of
sciences, PhD who lecture and conduct practical and laboratory classes.
The university has four educational buildings, three
buildings for conducting educational laboratory classes, modern educational
centers, a resource center with a total fund of about 700 thousand items, 3
student hostels for 1200 places, a student canteen for 460 seats. Based on the
goals of the Law on Education and the national training program, the university
in a market economy focuses on the training of highly qualified specialists for
the water industry. In accordance with the Decree of the President of the
Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-3003 dated May 24, 2017, the Tashkent Institute
of Irrigation and Melioration was transformed into the Tashkent Institute of
Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers.
According to the decree of the President of Uzbekistan
dated December 10, 2021, No. 42 "On measures to fundamentally improve the
training system for engineering personnel for the sectors of the economy based
on innovation and digitalization", the Tashkent Institute of Irrigation
and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers has been renamed the National Research
University "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural
Mechanization Engineers".
