International Olympiad on "Sustainable Development Goals"

The traditional national stage of the regional student Olympiad "Sustainable Development Goals" has been conducted with the participation of universities from Central Asian countries and Afghanistan. On April 17, 2023, the national stage of the international Olympiad was held at the National Research University "TIIAME." The event was inaugurated by the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Abdulkhakim Salokhiddinov. Additionally, Barbara Janusz-Pavletta, the Vice-Rector of Kazakh-German University, attended the opening ceremony and wished the participants success in the International Olympiad. The first stage of the Olympiad took the form of online testing, and the results were announced on the same day. The winners received tickets to progress to the second stage of the Olympiad. Representatives from 13 higher educational institutions of the country participated in the event. Further information will be provided following the results of the Olympiad.


Workshops and Seminars in Collaboration with the EU Development Program

At TIIAME National Research University, workshops and seminars are essential for promoting sustainability literacy. In collaboration with the EU Development Program, the university organized a series of workshops and seminars aimed at raising awareness of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These sessions specifically addressed Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Zero Hunger (SDG 2), and Gender Equality (SDG 5)—critical areas for fostering sustainable development in Uzbekistan and beyond.

The workshops were led by distinguished experts from TIIAME and the EU Development Program, who provided students with valuable insights into the challenges and solutions associated with these goals. Students engaged in interactive discussions, case studies, and group activities that facilitated the connection between theoretical knowledge and practical applications.

On June 23, 2023, the Delegation of the European Union in Uzbekistan, in collaboration with the "TIIAME" National Research University and the Tashkent State Agrarian University, organized a student debate entitled "Efficient Use of Water and Land Resources in the Agriculture of Uzbekistan."

At the conclusion of the seminars, a "Best Knower of SDGs" contest was held to assess students’ understanding of the topics covered. Participants showcased their knowledge and innovative ideas in front of a panel comprising university faculty and EU Development Program experts.

The top performers received certificates and prizes from both university and EU representatives, recognizing their exceptional comprehension of the SDGs and their commitment to sustainable development. This initiative not only enriched students' understanding of global challenges but also inspired them to take proactive roles in driving change.


World Earth Day and SDG Contest at the “TIIAME” National Research University

In celebration of World Earth Day, “TIIAME” National Research University organized a dynamic event aimed at promoting awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) closely linked to environmental protection on 18-21 April, 2023. The event focused on critical goals such as Climate Action (SDG 13), Life on Land (SDG 15), and Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7).

The highlight of the celebration was a two-part contest designed to engage students in both theoretical and practical aspects of sustainability:

  1. Best Knower of SDGs Test Contest: Students participated in a challenging quiz to demonstrate their understanding of the SDGs, with a special emphasis on their connection to Earth Day themes.
  2. Innovation Projects Competition: Students showcased innovative projects aimed at addressing sustainability challenges, such as renewable energy solutions, water conservation technologies, and eco-friendly agricultural practices.

The event concluded with an award ceremony, where winners from both contests were recognized for their efforts and achievements. Certificates and prizes were presented by TIIAME faculty and representatives of partnering organizations, honoring the students' creativity, knowledge, and commitment to sustainable development.

Through this initiative, TIIAME reaffirmed its dedication to equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to drive impactful change for a sustainable future.





 

World Water Day Celebration in Collaboration with USAID

“TIIAME” National Research University marked World Water Day with a series of impactful activities in collaboration with USAID to enhance students’ understanding of water-related sustainability issues. The event focused on key SDGs, including Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Life Below Water (SDG 14), and Climate Action (SDG 13), highlighting the importance of water as a vital resource for sustainable development. The event was organized on 2 February, 2023 at the “TIIAME” National Research University.

This celebration included a mix of educational and competitive activities:

  1. Workshops and Seminars: Experts from TIIAME and USAID delivered insightful sessions on global and regional water challenges, innovative water management practices, and the role of young professionals in achieving water security.
  2. Innovation Projects Competition: Students presented creative solutions to pressing water issues, such as water purification systems, efficient irrigation technologies, and strategies for combating water scarcity.
  3. Best Knower of SDGs Contest: A quiz contest tested students’ knowledge of the SDGs, with a particular focus on their interconnection with water-related challenges and opportunities.

At the conclusion of the event, the winners of both the innovation projects competition and the SDG knowledge contest were honored with certificates and awards, presented by USAID representatives and university officials.

This collaboration with USAID exemplifies the importance of international partnerships in enriching students' knowledge and empowering them to address global sustainability challenges. Promoting Gender Equality and Women in Science at TIIAME National Research University

TIIAME National Research University, in partnership with international organizations, organized a special event to emphasize the importance of Gender Equality (SDG 5) and the critical role of women in science, education, and society on February 7, 2023. The event aimed to inspire students to recognize the contributions of women to sustainable development and to promote equal opportunities for all.

The event featured several key activities:

  1. Workshops and Panel Discussions: Prominent women scientists, educators, and professionals shared their experiences and insights, highlighting the challenges and successes of women in STEM fields and beyond. Discussions also explored the importance of inclusivity and gender balance in driving innovation and progress.
  2. Essay and Innovation Competitions: Students were encouraged to participate in two contests:
    • Essays on the theme "The Role of Women in Science and Life" to express their perspectives on gender equality.
    • Innovative projects proposing solutions to gender-related challenges in education, workplace equity, or community empowerment.
  3. Best Knower of SDGs Contest: A quiz competition tested participants’ knowledge of SDGs, particularly focusing on SDG 5 and its relevance to achieving broader development goals.

The event concluded with a recognition ceremony, where winners of the essay, innovation, and SDG knowledge contests were awarded certificates and prizes by representatives of the university and partnering organizations.

Special Student Council on SDGs and Collaboration with QS ImpACT

"Green Country (Yashil Makon)" Initiative: Planting Trees for a Sustainable Future

TIIAME National Research University actively participates in the "Green Country (Yashil Makon)" initiative, a nationwide campaign aimed at promoting environmental sustainability through tree planting. This special action aligns closely with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Life on Land (SDG 15), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).

As part of this initiative, students, faculty, and staff of TIIAME come together to plant thousands of trees in the university campus, surrounding areas, and rural regions. These efforts are not only an opportunity to increase green spaces but also to educate students about the importance of reforestation in combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and improving air quality.

The university integrates the campaign into its educational activities by organizing seminars and workshops on the environmental and social benefits of afforestation.
