Campus Food Waste Tracking
Campus Food Waste Tracking at TIIAME NRU
At TIIAME National Research University (TIIAME NRU), we are
committed to addressing the issue of food waste on campus as part of our
efforts to contribute to SDG 2: Zero Hunger and promote sustainability.
As part of our comprehensive approach to environmental responsibility, the
university has implemented a Campus Food Waste Tracking initiative aimed
at reducing food waste and improving resource efficiency across all dining
facilities.
Food Waste Tracking System
The food waste tracking system at TIIAME NRU involves
monitoring and recording the amount of food waste generated in our canteens,
cafeterias, and other dining areas. Through this system, we collect data on
uneaten portions, food preparation waste, and discarded items to better
understand the sources and causes of food waste. This allows us to identify
patterns, make informed decisions, and take necessary actions to reduce food
waste across the campus.
Key Features of the Initiative
- Data
Collection: Staff regularly measure and track food waste across all
campus dining facilities, recording the amount of food discarded, the
reasons for waste, and any food recovery opportunities.
- Awareness
Campaigns: The university actively educates students and staff on the
importance of reducing food waste. Through awareness campaigns and
workshops, we promote mindful consumption and encourage the donation of
excess food.
- Optimizing
Meal Portions: Based on the tracked data, we adjust meal portion sizes
to reduce overproduction and minimize leftovers.
- Composting
and Recycling: Food waste that cannot be avoided is sorted and
composted, turning organic waste into valuable resources for campus
gardens and research projects.
Collaborating for Change
The food waste tracking system is a key part of TIIAME NRU's
larger sustainability strategy, and we are continuously working with faculty,
staff, and students to further reduce food waste on campus. By taking a
data-driven approach, we aim to not only reduce waste but also contribute to
broader global efforts in supporting sustainable food systems and achieving
food security.
Through these efforts, TIIAME NRU is actively fostering a
culture of sustainability and helping to ensure that our resources are used
responsibly, in line with the goals of SDG 2: Zero Hunger and the
broader commitment to environmental sustainability.
