Studies were carried out on improving water conservation and engineering solutions on “Siza” canal.
24.04.2026
Within the framework of implementing the “Roadmap” approved under Resolution No. PD-122 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated April 2, 2026, comprehensive studies were organized in Andijan region. The aim was to increase the efficiency of ongoing work in the water management sector and to widely introduce scientifically grounded solutions into practice.
The study involved Associate Professor B.T. Amanov from the Department of “Use of Hydromeliorative Systems” at the “TIIAME” National Research University, who also serves as the scientific advisor to the regional governor on agriculture and water management issues; E.A. Kazakov, head of the ISMITI laboratory and the official responsible for the region; M. Zaynobiddinov, head of the construction and maintenance division of the “Norin–Karadarya” Basin Irrigation System Authority; as well as other sector specialists.
The activities of “Siza” canal were thoroughly examined. It was noted that this canal is one of the key irrigation networks passing through the territories of Andijan, Baliqchi, and Izboskan districts, with its main water source being the Karadarya River. Since the canal draws water directly from the river, frequent sedimentation of sand and silt has been observed, negatively affecting its hydraulic efficiency.
According to the data, phased concreting works are planned for the 14.5 km section of the canal (from PK 0+00 to PK 145+00) during 2026–2027. It is planned to complete concrete lining for 7 km of this section by the end of the current year.
The implementation of these measures will help ensure stable water supply in the region, increase agricultural crop yields, and improve the efficiency of rational water resource use.
