Experience of Namangan in modernizing pumping stations wil be expanded
16.09.2025
The President of the Uzbekistan Republic, Shavkat Mirziyoev inspected the Ayqiron-1 pumping station in Chortok district, Namangan region.
Located on the Great Namangan main canal, this station irrigates 815 hectares of land. However, due to outdated units, efficiency was low and waste was high. For example, about 6 million kilowatt-hours of electricity were consumed annually.
Through a public-private partnership, an entrepreneur installed energy-efficient units and modern equipment at the site. The upgraded system now allows for up to 40 percent annual savings in electricity.
In addition to efficiency, the new pumps have a higher water output capacity. This increases irrigation coverage and helps improve crop yields.
There are more than 200 pumping stations in the region. Of these, 43 have been transferred to the management of Nammotors Water Supply enterprise under a 10-year public-private partnership agreement. Around 40 billion soums have been invested in the process, with pump units being localized.
The head of state instructed that within two years, all pumping stations in the region be modernized based on the Ayqiron-1 model, and that this experience be gradually introduced across other regions of the country.
It was emphasized that modernization should not be limited to upgrading technology, but also include qualified management and proper operation. With knowledge-based management, the economic benefits of modernization will increase, leading to higher agricultural productivity, food security, and improved living standards.
Officials also reported that in the future, over 750 farms will be equipped with small solar-powered pumps and drip irrigation systems.
