Water resources management and irrigation sector will be developed

A Presidential Decree of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the Approval of the Program for the Development of the Irrigation Sector in Water Resources Management for 2025–2028” (PD–250, August 15, 2025) has been adopted.
🟢 According to the decree, the main target indicators of the program for the development of the irrigation sector in water resources management in the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2025–2028 are set as follows, including:
🔹 Reconstruction of 2,551 km of irrigation networks, with at least 1.3 trillion soums allocated annually from the State budget, and utilization of $300 million from international financial institutions for this purpose;
🔹 Reduction of irrigated land with a low level of water supply from 424,000 hectares to 276,000 hectares.
🏛 The decree also approved the composition of the Republican Water Council, which will coordinate the rational management, efficient use and protection of water resources.
⏰ In addition, according to the decree, by the end of 2025, a project will be implemented to install alternative energy sources (solar panels) and energy-saving equipment at 15 pumping stations.
