The friendship between the Uzbek and Turkmen peoples-nations with deep roots, shared histories, and common destinies is a strong brotherhood that has developed over centuries. It is built on historical, cultural, linguistic, and religious kinship. This bond is strengthened not only by geographical proximity but also by shared traditions, folklore, and historical experience. For centuries, Uzbeks and Turkmens lived side by side, interacting and influencing each other through trade, cultural exchange, and political-economic cooperation along the Silk Road. During the era of Amir Temur, close ties were firmly established between the two peoples. There are many similarities in their way of life, national attire, folk songs, and celebrations. Moreover, both nations share the Islamic faith, further deepening their spiritual connection.
Friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan continue to develop at the intergovernmental level. The leaders of both countries meet regularly, working to strengthen cooperation in economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres. Friendship festivals and various cultural events held in border regions further reinforce the brotherly ties between the two nations. The enduring friendship between the Turkmen and Uzbek peoples is a great value that has stood the test of time and will remain a symbol of unity, peace, and brotherhood for future generations.
As a symbol of these traditions, on April 23, 2025, the National Leader of the Turkmen People, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, paid an official visit to Uzbekistan. At the Samarkand International Airport, adorned with the national flags of both countries, he was warmly welcomed by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The visit's agenda includes bilateral meetings and joint participation in cultural events.
As part of the program in Samarkand, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov visited the Hazrat Khizr complex and paid tribute to the memory of Uzbekistan’s First President.
They also participated in cultural events held at the “Eternal City” historical and ethnographic park within the Silk Road Samarkand International Tourism Center. The distinguished guest explored exhibitions showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the Uzbek people, including traditional crafts and applied arts. The event featured a cultural program with performances by dance ensembles.
In today’s globalized world, friendship and mutual understanding between brotherly nations are a cornerstone of peace. A key message in the speeches of the Head of State at global forums and during international visits is the promotion of peace and harmony throughout the world.
