Talented youth – the future of the country
28.03.2025

One of the most important factors determining the future and development of any nation is its talented youth. Providing them with proper guidance, enabling them to engage in innovation and scientific research not only contributes to the country’s socio-economic development but also helps the country earn a respectable place in the global community.
The progress of any nation is directly related to science, technology, and innovation. Identifying talented youth and encouraging the development of new inventions and technologies, as well as attracting new businesses and startups to the national economy, are among the key priorities.
This, in turn, helps prepare competitive specialists for the global market. It is inherently connected to improving the quality of education. Supporting talented youth positively impacts the education system as well. Specialized educational programs, international learning processes, scholarships, and grants for such youth will also positively affect other students, motivating them to strive for higher achievements.
The presentation by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on March 27, 2025 focusing on improving the system of support for talented youth, aligns with this goal. The development of advanced thinking and leadership in society undoubtedly opens doors to new opportunities. Talented youth often emerge as leaders, initiators, and reformers in society. Their support facilitates the introduction of new ideas and initiatives, shapes the intellectual environment, and increases the social activism of the youth.
The presentation emphasized three key areas: the establishment of international schools, preparation for "Ivy League" universities, and the creation of the "National Golden Fund Community."
It is not a secret that significant positive steps are being taken in these areas. As mentioned in the presentation, 14 Presidential schools, 185 specialized schools and 9 creative schools have been established. The teaching and assessment system from these schools is now implemented in 1,500 general education schools. A new university, “New Uzbekistan University,” has been opened for talented graduates. This is a good step, but it is crucial to focus on the quality and effectiveness of these efforts.
What stood out for me was the initiative to prepare for "Ivy League" universities alongside the establishment of international schools.
Here is a brief explanation: The "Ivy League" refers to a group of prestigious and historic universities in the United States, known for their high-quality education, research output, and substantial financial resources. The eight universities in this league are:
-
Harvard University
-
Yale University
-
Princeton University
-
Columbia University
-
University of Pennsylvania
-
Dartmouth College
-
Brown University
-
Cornell University
These universities are famous for providing top-tier education, with some of the world’s best professors and researchers. Graduates from these institutions include US Presidents, Nobel Laureates, business tycoons and politicians. The strong research capabilities, state-of-the-art labs, and significant investments in innovation make these universities highly competitive on the global stage. Admission to these institutions is extremely difficult, as the selection process is rigorous, requiring high academic performance, social engagement, and leadership qualities from applicants.
This information calls for us to consider how we prepare our youth to meet such high standards and excel at the global level.
To address this, a 6-step National Program was proposed. According to the plan, 3,000 students will be selected this year, and 208 advisors from the President’s schools and specialized institutions will be assigned to guide them. This is an excellent proposal.
These efforts lay the foundation for our youth to gain world-class education. Now, it is essential to help guide them and assist them in gaining admission to the world’s leading universities. In a recent meeting with the youth, the President proposed several initiatives related to this matter. The practical and organizational aspects of this proposal were discussed in the presentation.
Additionally, a significant plan is to launch international schools starting in September this year. The first group of 60 talented students from 8th-grade graduates will be selected. The curriculum will follow international standards, covering three main areas: core subjects, specialized subjects, and courses on leadership and social activism. The academic year will be divided into three periods, lasting 11 months.
Another crucial issue discussed was ensuring that youth educated abroad are provided with appropriate jobs in our country. The proposal to establish the "National Golden Fund Community" was introduced. This community will unite talented youth on a single platform. It will offer advantages, grants, startup programs, and other opportunities for those returning after studying abroad. An annual forum will be held on May 25 to discuss educational reforms, opportunities for talented youth, and the experiences of foreign universities.
The President supported these proposals and emphasized the need to systematically support talented youth. There is both confidence and opportunity to make this happen. For example, through the "El-yurt Umidi" Foundation, 750 of our compatriots are currently studying abroad. Authorities must work to increase these opportunities for our youth.
In conclusion, supporting talented youth is not only vital for their future but also for the overall development of society. Therefore, creating vast opportunities for them is the most important investment in progress.
