In the history of our people, there are many sacred months and days celebrated in the Islamic world. Ramadan is one of the blessed months, a time for Muslims to seek rewards and spiritual elevation. It is a month filled with intentions and deeds, and it is the month in which the Quran was revealed. The Quran, specifically in the Surah "Al-Baqarah," says: “Ramadan is the month in which the Quran was revealed, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.” The essence of unity and the spirit of tolerance are embedded in this month.
On February 27, 2025 the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, signed a decree on "Properly Observing the Blessed Month of Ramadan." Ramadan, which has been widely celebrated for centuries, marks the first day of spring.
The decree highlights the need to work with various regional authorities such as the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, the regional and Tashkent city authorities, the Committee on Religious Affairs, the National Social Protection Agency, the Uzbekistan Mahalla Association, and other organizations to celebrate Ramadan in accordance with national traditions and values. It emphasizes that the celebration of Ramadan should be based on the idea of “Ramadan - the month of charity, unity, and tolerance.” The decree also focuses on providing assistance to those in need, supporting youth pursuing education, strengthening family ties, promoting mutual understanding and trust in local communities, protecting the environment, improving sacred sites and pilgrimage locations, planting trees, and preventing wastefulness.
The decree also advises the mass media, including the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan and the National Information Agency, to widely cover the events during Ramadan. This decree is a significant document aimed at celebrating Ramadan in accordance with national traditions and values.
In recent years, efforts have been made to ensure freedom of conscience, preserve the values and traditions of the sacred Islamic faith, which embodies humanist principles, and pass these values onto future generations. It has also been a priority to strengthen peace, inter-ethnic harmony, and cooperation in our country, as well as provide all-around support for people in need, the disabled, and those facing hardships. These noble efforts are especially prominent during the blessed month of Ramadan.
For our people, Ramadan has long been a symbol of kindness, gratitude, and tolerance, and it has become a tradition to welcome and celebrate it with high regard. The decree emphasizes the importance of preserving the environment, improving sacred sites, pilgrimage areas, and cemeteries, planting trees, and adhering to standards in Ramadan-related events while avoiding wastefulness.
In conclusion, the traditions and values of Ramadan, which represent unity, resilience, and tolerance, will continue to reflect our customs and values, remaining ever relevant.
