A visit of university rector and South Korean Representatives to the “UzAvto Motors Powertrain” Plant

On February 7, 2025 Professor Mirzaev Bakhadir Suyunovich, Rector of "TIIAME" National Research University and partners from Keymyung College University, South Korea made a visit to the “UzAvto Motors Powertrain” plant within the framework of the International grant.
It is worth noting that under the "Leading University in International Cooperation" grant program, the "Education Competency Enhancement Project Mechatronics Technicum at “TIIAME” National Research University in Uzbekistan" international project joinly with South Korea in cooperation with Keymung College University began its activities on April 1, 2024, and will run until March 31, 2029.
During the visit, participants from the project in South Korea, Prof. Hae Woon Choi, Dr. Donggeon, as well as Prof. R. Baratov, Associate Professor G. Eshchanova, and Prof. A. Gapparov from our university attended the event.
During the meeting with the head of the “UzAvto Motors Powertrain” company, Rector of 'TIIAME" National Research University Prof. Mirzaev Bakhadir Suyunovich discussed the broad opportunities for talented students that would be created in collaboration with the university and the plant. Information was also shared about the international grant in which our university participates. The plans for preparing specialists on Mechatronics and Robotics based on the advanced technology and experience of Keymyung College University in South Korea were briefly outlined.
Within the framework of the international grant, it was emphasized that a “Digital Education Innovation Support Centre” will be established at our university to promote digital education and innovation in the country. Additionally, efforts to address issues like improving income for women and gender equality were discussed, which would be carried out in collaboration with the “UzAvto Motors Powertrain” company.
Visitors were provided with the detailed information about the engines produced by “UzAuto Motors Powertrain,” including the second-generation B-DOHC (Double Overhead Camshaft) engines, turbo and atmospheric CSS (Cylinder set strategy) Prime engines designed specifically for the Uzbekistan market, and engines for Onix, Tracker, and Cobalt models with capacities of 1.2L and 1.5L.
The company also specializes in the production of key engine components, such as the crankshaft, cylinder block, and cylinder head, and meets global quality standards according to the GM - GMS (Global Manufacturing System). Visitors were impressed by the fact that the company is the first and only factory in Central Asia producing aluminum cylinder head components.
It was also highlighted that all “UzAuto Motors Powertrain” employees have been trained in GM's global production processes. Many specialists have improved their qualifications abroad and gained experience in other GM factories. The company has undergone significant growth and achieved high levels of integrated quality, obtaining ISO 9001 certification in 2014, GM "BIQ 3" certification in 2015, and "BIQ 4" certification in 2018.
The company is committed to environmental protection and implemented an environmental management system in 2014, obtaining the ISO 14001 international certification. In 2018, the company introduced the ISO 50001 energy management system to reduce energy consumption and enhance energy-saving culture. A unique wastewater treatment facility was also installed, which allows for a high degree of purification of oil products in the wastewater.
“UzAuto Motors Powertrain” is one of the leading enterprises in our country, employing the best workers to produce engines that meet global quality standards for Uzbek cars, contributing significantly to the development of the economy.
Company Development History and Chronology:
- October 2008: A contract was signed between GM and “O‘zAvtoSanoat” AK to establish GM Powertrain Uzbekistan, an engine manufacturing plant.
- November 2008: Groundbreaking ceremony and official start of construction of the plant.
- July 2011: The first engine was produced at GM Powertrain Uzbekistan.
- August 2011: President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov visited GM Powertrain Uzbekistan.
- November 2011: The opening ceremony of GM Powertrain Uzbekistan.
- June 2012: Regular production of 1.2L new engines started.
- October 2019: “O‘zAvtoSanoat” AK and GM moved to a new stage of cooperation, reflecting the development of the Uzbek automotive industry.
- November 2019: The company’s name was changed to “UzAuto Motors Powertrain” from General Motors Powertrain Uzbekistan.
- July 2020: The milestone of 1,000,000 engines produced.
- December 2022: Launch of CSS Prime engines (1.2 LIF and 1.2 L4H).
- June 2023: The mechanical processing line for cylinder blocks and cylinder heads of 1.2 LIF and 1.2 L4H engines of the CSS Prime family was launched.
- May 2024: The first batch of validated cylinder blocks for 1.2 LIF and 1.2 L4H engines of the CSS Prime family was produced.
We hope that within the framework of the international grant, significant work will be carried out in collaboration with Keymyung College University, South Korea in the fields of Mechatronics and Robotics. The visit to “UzAvto Motors Powertrain” provided further confidence in the positive results of the reforms in education and industry integration in Uzbekistan, which are crucial for the bright future of the country.
