International Forum “Women Farmers: Science, Innovation and Transformation of Agri-Food Systems”

 At present, the international forum dedicated to the International Day of Rural Women and entitled “Women Farmers: Science, Innovation and Transformation of Agri-Food Systems” is being held at the Hyatt Regency Tashkent hotel in the capital city.The prestigious international forum addresses a number of important issues, including the role of women in agriculture, the participation of women farmers in modern agricultural development, the application of science and innovation in agriculture, and the contribution of women to ensuring food security.

Speaking at the forum, Ibrohim Abdurahmonov, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, emphasized that the role and importance of women in the agricultural sector are steadily increasing.

The forum was also attended by representatives and experts from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Committee on Family and Women of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Council of Farmers of Uzbekistan, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, the Republican Council of the Trade Union of Agro-Industrial Complex Workers of Uzbekistan, the Committee on International Affairs, Defense and Security of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as the Senior Adviser on Gender and Social Protection at the FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia. Representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including the Department for the Development of Science, Innovation and Education, the Regional Director of Caritas Switzerland for Central Asia, and other responsible officials and foreign experts also delivered presentations.

As was emphasized during the forum, agriculture is not only about machinery, technology, productivity and economic efficiency; above all, it is a sector in which the human factor plays a central role. The role and contribution of women in this process are invaluable. Women play a particularly important role in ensuring the stability of rural life, the well-being of families, fostering respect for the land, and shaping a culture of hard work.

Among the participants, Professor Zukhra Karabayevna Ismailova, Professor of the Department of Professional Education at the university, also took part in the sectional sessions. She delivered a presentation on the topic “Strengthening the Participation and Leadership of Women in Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.”

Within the framework of this topic, particular attention was paid to the importance of expanding women’s opportunities and realizing their potential. It was emphasized that empowering rural women is not merely a matter of supporting one particular group of people, but also constitutes an important responsibility of organizations and institutions working across the various areas of the agricultural sector.
