International Collaboration to develop best practice for tackling the SDGs

Specialists have received training in water resources management in South Korea.

Qualified personnel with contemporary knowledge and skills are the driving force behind the development of any industry. Special emphasis is placed on the training and professional development of specialists in this field, including their exposure to best practices from developed countries.

As part of the initiative to develop the concept of a water academy and enhance the skills of industry specialists, currently being implemented in collaboration with the World Bank, a group of employees from "Ozsuvtaminot" JSC, alongside Associate Professor Abdukadirova Malokhat Norijhonovna from the Department of NRU Ecology and Water Resources Management at the "Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers," participated in a two-week training seminar at the "K-Water" Academy in South Korea in February 2023.

During the training seminar, participants will receive comprehensive information regarding the stages of development of the South Korean water supply system, the priority directions of the country's water policy, tariff policies, the effectiveness of energy-saving technologies in water supply facilities, and water quality standards. Additionally, the seminar program includes practical training and visits to several drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities, as well as laboratories.

Cooperation project between John Deere Company and "TIIAME" NRU

On February 2, 2023, in accordance with the memorandum of cooperation established with John Deere, the university hosted representatives including Aleksey Lyubetsky, Director for CIS Countries at John Deere; Sardor Salihovich Sodikov, Director of the Representative Office in Uzbekistan; and Botir Israilov, Deputy Director.

At the meeting, the rector of the university, Mirzayev Bakhodir Suyunovich, outlined potential avenues for future collaboration based on the outcomes of the interview conducted with representatives from John Deere. The proposed initiatives include:

1. Implementation of a joint project between Deere & Company and "TIIAME" NRU to expand the utilization of John Deere’s equipment in Uzbekistan, enhancing the efficiency of its use.

2. Expanding opportunities to attract international students for training engineers in agricultural mechanization at our university, while fostering practical cooperation to establish a workforce that meets international labor market demands and global standards.

3. Establishing the Company’s regional training center for Central Asia, "Academy," at our university, aimed at periodically upgrading the qualifications of our production specialists and faculty with the involvement of John Deere experts.

4. Acknowledging the widespread use of John Deere equipment in our country’s agriculture, we aim for continuous collaboration in providing educational materials and tools, considering that our graduates are engaged in operating this equipment.

5. Agreements were made regarding internships for university specialists at leading factories and design centers of John Deere.

 

The Uzbek delegation participated in a training seminar as part of a German international project initiative.

The international project "Improving Energy Efficiency in the Building Sector through the Use of Renewable Raw Materials from Agroforestry Systems" commenced its activities at our university in collaboration with the University of Sustainable Development Eberswalde, Germany. Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development has been recognized as the leading educational institution in the competition announced by the German International Climate Initiative (IKI) in the area of "Energy Efficiency in Buildings."

The primary organizations involved in this grant (2021-2024), valued at a total of 620,000 euros, include Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE), the World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF - International Center for Research in Agroforestry), and the "TIIAME" National Research University. Additionally, several international organizations, such as the Technical University of Berlin, the German Institute of Architecture - Natural Building Laboratory, the International Advisory Group for Agricultural Research (CGIAR), and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), are actively contributing to the project by sharing their best practices. The coordinator of the VEGERA project in Uzbekistan is the rector of our university, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Mirzayeva Bakhodir Suyunovich. Project tasks are being effectively implemented by the team in a phased manner.

From February 13-21, 2023, as part of the VEGERA project, a group of seven individuals, including representatives from the "TIIAME" National Research University, the Tashkent Institute of Architecture and Civil Engineering, and the head of the furniture enterprise "Eitikod," visited higher educational institutions and manufacturing enterprises in Germany.


The coordinator of VEGERA international grants, an expert in international grants and projects, a leading specialist in social and environmental change in Central Asia, and head of the international master's program in Global Change Management, Professor Martin Velp, attended the training seminar. During the project, reports from our rector and representatives of the public were presented, followed by engaging discussions.

The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the construction of a two-story demonstration house-laboratory at our university by German architects, as well as to identify suitable sites for construction. Additionally, excursions to the operational laboratories of our university were organized for our partners.

The management presented the initial projects for the laboratory, which were well-received by our partner. Specialists from the Technical University of Berlin were also involved in the construction of the laboratory.

During the meeting between Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development and the "TIIAME" National Research University, productive negotiations were held regarding the further development of cooperation in educational and scientific research and the implementation of activities within the framework of the project.


“TIIAME” NRU hosted an international festival, a training seminar and a round-table on implementing best practices of Great Britain on Quality Education

To study national and international experiences in ensuring the quality of education during the "Year of Caring for People and Quality Education," the British Council, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, has launched a series of strategic discussions on effective university management. These discussions are dedicated to supporting significant national reforms in the field of education and addressing key components of effective management of higher education institutions, as well as modern approaches to quality assurance at the institutional level. As part of this initiative, a round table on "Development of a Culture of Effective Management in Higher Education Institutions" was held at the National Research University "TIIAME" on February 24, 2023.

The event was inaugurated by the rector of our university, Professor Mirzaev Bakhodir Suyunovich. The international festivals and training seminars hosted at our university under the "Academy of Changes" project aim to harmonize the experiences of Great Britain and Uzbekistan, enhance management efficiency, and ensure both internal and external quality in the educational process. The discussions focused on creating an ecosystem for the continuous development of a quality management culture in higher education institutions and exploring the contributions of each participant to effective management within an integrated education system and labor market. The discussion included leaders from higher education, rectors of various institutions in Uzbekistan, project managers for educational reform, business partners, and representatives from international organizations operating in Uzbekistan.

Additionally, the issues of mutual cooperation between the board and executive bodies were discussed in detail, with insights presented from the experiences of Great Britain, particularly from chairpersons, rectors, and executive directors of higher education institution boards. On February 22-23, as part of the project, a training seminar was organized at the Faculty of Land Resources Management. Participants from the "Change Academy" representing 30 universities attended this seminar.

The international festival, part of the project, commenced on February 24. This event was organized by our university's rector, Professor Mirzaev B.S., and the Deputy Director of the British Council in Uzbekistan, Jamilya Gulyamova. During the festival, 30 teams from universities across all regions of Uzbekistan presented their projects, engaged in discussions on new collaborative opportunities with other universities, sought business partnerships, and explored avenues for cooperation with Great Britain.

SUSADICA project workshop on sustainable agricultural development in Central Asia.

A research workshop for the Structured Doctoral Programme on Sustainable Agricultural Development in Central Asia (SUSADICA) took place at IAMO in Halle (Saale), Germany, from March 2 to 3, 2023. The workshop was collaboratively organized by IAMO, Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU), Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), and the National Research University Tashkent Institute of Irrigation and Agricultural Mechanization Engineers (TIIAME NRU).

To present and discuss research progress and implement the next steps in ongoing research, as well as create a roadmap of activities, doctoral students, supervisors, and project coordinators of the SUSADICA doctoral program convened for a two-day workshop at IAMO. The workshop was inaugurated by IAMO Director Professor Thomas Herzfeld and Professor Martin Petrick, the SUSADICA project leader from JLU. During the subsequent sessions over the two days, doctoral students from IAMO, MLU, and JLU presented their research findings on topics including governmentality in land reform, farm investment decisions, adoption of sustainable agricultural practices, agricultural liberalization and the changing role of women, the impact of weather shocks and livestock on poverty, tenure arrangements and farm performance, and the effects of climate change on water supply.

On the second day of the workshop, the Vice Rector of TIIAME NRU, Professor Abdulkhakim Salokhiddinov, and the local coordinator of the project, Dr. Sherzod Murodov, outlined the next steps for the implementation of the SUSADICA program. During discussions regarding plans for the year, it was agreed that the SUSADICA partners would organize an academic symposium at TIIAME NRU in October 2023 in Tashkent.

The SUSADICA doctoral program is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation and the Uzbek Agency of Innovative Development. It aims to conduct cutting-edge research that meets international standards on topics of regional and international relevance, strengthen graduate education in agricultural development in Central Asia, and enhance the academic environment at TIIAME.

 

The representative of “TIIAME” National Research University participated in the Higher education reform experts’ (HERE) conference in Barcelona, Spain.

The Annual Conference of the HERE on the topic "Higher education policy reform for impact" was held on December 4-5, 2023 at the University of Barcelona, Spain, which ranks among the top 200 HEIs in the world.

At this conference, Ilhom Abdurahmanov, a Head of department for monitoring international ranking activities of the “TIIAME” National Research University, assistant teacher of the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformatics, higher education reform expert participated, and made a speech on the topic "Innovation and digitalization of learning and the impacts on internationalization" on behalf of Uzbekistan.

The main goal of the conference is to present a three-stage system of reforms to promote and improve quality in the field of higher education.Higher Education Reform Experts (HERE) are nominated by their governments in EU Neighbourhood countries and appointed by the European Commission to play a catalytic role in higher education reform. HERE consists of experts from universities, ministries, national higher education agencies, student unions and other relevant organizations in countries neighboring the European Union (Southern Mediterranean Sea, Western Balkans, Eastern Europe, and Central Asia).
