Sustainability Committee
The University Sustainability Committee is responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the university's strategy and policies on sustainability. Its role includes identifying aspects of sustainability relevant to the university community, reviewing consultation responses on sustainability matters, and providing information, guidance, and thought leadership on sustainability to members and stakeholders. Committee members are passionate about specific Sustainable Development Goals, which guide their work.
The committee, which meets four times a year, comprises mainly university members from various sectors. Members serve two-year terms, renewable up to six years. The mission of the university Sustainability Committee is to create a culture of sustainability on campus by raising awareness, fostering collaborations, integrating sustainability into academic programs, and promoting sustainable practices in operations and planning.
Under the Office of the Chancellor, the committee collaborates to increase awareness of sustainability concepts, infuse sustainability into academic programs, integrate sustainable practices into operations, and ensure sustainability principles are embedded in core activities. The committee reports to the Vice Chancellor's Executive on the university's sustainability performance and makes recommendations on commitments, policies, planning, and partnerships related to sustainability. Additionally, it oversees the university's commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
