https://tiiame.uz/news?id=3611

On February 2, 2023, TIIAME National Research University, in collaboration with the Department of Ecology and Water Resources Management, the Tashkent City Council of the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan, and the Senate Committee on the Development of the Aral Sea Region and Ecology, hosted a round table in observance of World Wetlands Day. The topic of the event was "Issues of Protection of Wetlands in Uzbekistan."

According to the decree of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated August 30, 2001, the Republic of Uzbekistan acceded to the Ramsar Convention, with this decree entering into force in February 2002. The wetlands of Uzbekistan encompass more than 500 reservoirs, covering a total area of approximately one million hectares. These areas are critically important habitats for various waterfowl and shorebirds, including rare and endangered species. The list of Ramsar sites within Uzbekistan includes Dengizkul Lake and the Aydar-Arnasai system of lakes. Wetlands provide essential habitats for numerous bird species that migrate through the country. Therefore, it is imperative to protect these areas and maintain the stability of their natural and climatic conditions. Wetlands support approximately 40 species of animals listed in the "Red Book" of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including both birds and fish.
