The Water Code has been adopted

By Law N. –1076, dated July 30, 2025, the Water Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan has been approved.
The Code regulates relations in the field of rational use and protection of water, water bodies, water management facilities, and land of the water fund.
According to the Code, water is a national asset, it must be used rationally and is protected by the state.
Water use is classified into general and special use.
The categories of water bodies include:
▫️ Surface and underground water bodies within Uzbekistan;
▫️ Transboundary surface and underground water bodies located in and crossing the territory of Uzbekistan.
Water bodies may be used individually or jointly.
For decision-making in water resource management, Water Councils shall be established in the form of collegial-advisory bodies at the national and basin levels, and, if necessary, at the regional level.
In addition, a Republican Water Council will be established under the Cabinet of Ministers.
The law comes into force three months after its official publication.
