The English Language Course for Water Resource Management Specialists Has Come to an End
The “Professional English for Hydrology and Water Resource Management Specialists” course, which started in January 2025 at the TIIAME National Research University and lasted for five months, officially concluded on June 30 of this year. The course was organized under the grant “ESP in Uzbekistan (English for Specific Purposes in Uzbekistan)” funded by the U.S. Department of State.
This course was designed to enhance the professional and academic English proficiency of specialists in the field of hydrology and water resources. Its main objectives included mastering technical terminology, reading scientific texts, writing reports, and giving presentations, as well as developing the academic and communication skills necessary for participation in international conferences.
Not only specialists and researchers from the TIIAME National Research University participated in the course, but also staff members from the Tashkent State Agrarian University and the Scientific Research Institute of Irrigation and Water Problems under the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan were involved and trained.
The training sessions were conducted three times a week by professors from Michigan State University and local instructors, ensuring a high-quality and globally oriented learning process. As part of the project, trainers also developed a special training manual.
Representatives from the US Embassy in Tashkent also attended the course closing ceremony alongside the university’s leadership. At the end of the program, participants were awarded certificates.
This project stands as a successful model for English language teaching in technical fields in Uzbekistan and can serve as an example for other ESP (English for Specific Purposes) initiatives.
