The webinar within EMI “English as a Medium of Instruction" international project by British Council with the cooperation of “TIIAME” NRU

 

   It is important to suggest that on January 14, 2022 there was organized the   webinar within EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction)" international project by  British Council. At this event, the coordinators and project participants from 16 HEIs of the Republic of Uzbekistan participated by presenting the tasks and activities carried out in the form of a report.

     It should be noted that the coordinator of the mentioned project is the first vice-rector of “TIIAME " National Research University Professor B.S. Mirzaev, in the team of which, there are three participants, one ESP teacher and two content teachers.

      It is known that the role of the British Council in improving the teaching of English in Uzbekistan and achieving great success, internationalization of higher education institutions are invaluable. All British Council projects meet the requirements of our national reforms, and rich experience gained within the projects contributes to the improvement of quality education in higher education institutions.

   It is not a secret that the coordinator of “ English as a Medium of Instruction” project Prof. B.S. Mirzaev, the First Vice-Rector of “TIIAME” NRU is doing his best in implementing the required activities within the project.

  The purpose of this project is to assist teachers in their professional development, creating opportunities for the introduction of foreign experience in the field of education. One of the main objectives of the project is to improve educational materials based on international experience in the development of modern curricula, as well as organizing consultation meetings, webinars and seminars with project experts from UK. The project participants became members of Norwich Institute for Language Education platform https://nile.elt.com/ and successfully completed three-monthly  online course and received international certificates. As a part of the project, Information Resource Center (“Professional Development Center”) of our university is being annually provided with a certain amount of foreign books from the United Kingdom, taking into account the needs of the university.

     Senior teacher of English language Department, Guzal Eschanova, project  participant made a presentation at the webinar. She informed about the effective activities of Professional Development Centre, which was opened at the university with the support of the British Council, besides that “General English” and  IELTS courses are being organized constantly for students and teachers, registration of candidates for the international IELTS and Aptis exams,  providing readers with electronic and original versions of Cambridge and Oxford books, improving their work through the useful educational programs of British Council using  computers of the Centre, which are really beneficial for the preparatory process of the exam.

      It is important to suggest that within the project British Council provides a variety of information resources (foreign books) to 16 non-philological institutions. The seminar covered such topics as organizing effective teaching of  English, the 21st century skills, the creation of teaching materials, overcoming problems and solutions in teaching, best practices and opportunities for teachers. During the question answer period, such issues as the importance of training specialists to meet the requirements of labor market, further modernization of  English language teaching system and the introduction of advanced technologies in education was also discussed. The work done within the framework of the project made a good impression on everyone, which in its turn will lead to the solution of a number of problems in education and the development of internationalization at HEIs.

    We hope that exchanging experience  and feedback of experts  received within the project will pave the way for further improvement at all HEIs very soon.
